Nikon Celebrates 90th Anniversary Nikon D300: Now In My Possession!
Nov 25

I did an extensive comparison between all the high-end Garmin models and think that the nuvi 680 is the way to go. Its a steal at Costco. List was around $900 and the lowest price I found online was around $600. Then I found it at Costco for $479.99. Done. Purchased it. I have an Apple iPhone and was amazed how well the 680 integrated with the iPhone. The call coming in is very visible. The Bluetooth functionality on the 680 is great and when you incorporate it with the FM transmitter, its makes the iPhone experience that much better. It comes with a free 1 year subscription to MSN Direct which adds realtime traffic, weather, gas pricing, and movie times to the nuvi 680 with its built-in MSN Direct antenna in the car charger. I just ordered the nuvi 680. The sales person told me I needed a memory card, that I needed to buy for $70. It that true?

Eileen, that is not true. You don’t NEED to get one to use the nuvi 680. Its used for transferring MP3s and photos to the Garmin. I installed a 1gb SD card in mine. If you don’t use those functions, then you can just use the nuvi as is.

I purchased this unit a few months ago, and I have to say I wholeheartedly agree. It is *fantastic*. Unlike the 700 series units with internal antennas, this one gets a signal quickly and easily. And the traffic/weather stuff from MSN direct is very cool. It reroutes you based on traffic conditions and road construction! My only complaint is that there are several stores and businesses missing from the database. Our local Target store is an example. It just doesn’t know about it. No matter. I still love this thing. So will you. In fact, because she talks to you in such plain english, you may come to think of it as an electronic friend. We named ours “Shirley”.
